FAQ

Where are you based and do you travel?

I live in Northern Minnesota in a very pretty and remote location with plenty of natural, outdoor settings to photograph your animal companions. I am located about 2.5 hours north of the Twin Cities area, 1.5 hours west of Duluth and 1.5 hours east of Brainerd.

I do travel nationwide and can be hired for private sittings or invited to be the official photographer at animals events such as NoseWork, Dock diving, Lure Course, etc.

Let's talk! call or text 612-968-5209

What is a sitting vs being at an event?

A sitting is a pre-arranged commitment to have me photograph a specific animal or a group of animals. Sittings where I require a minimum of 4 - that can be 4 animals from one owner or 4 animals from 4 different owners.

Events are animal related activities such as trials or shows. The host of the event directly arranges with me in advance to be the photographer at that event. I will take candid photos of the animals "working", take qualifying or "win" photos as well as offer individual sittings as time allows.

I offer event photography nationwide and all events need to be outdoors or parts of it outdoors.

Events include NoseWork, Disc Dog, Herding, Dock Diving, Fast Cat, Draft, Lure Course and any other outdoor trials and shows.

When will we get our photos?

I work as quickly as I can to get your photos back to you in a timely manner. A lot depends on the time of year and how many sittings that I have taken at an event or on a photo weekend shoot. I strive to have photos placed in an online gallery within 2 weeks of each sitting, but will let you know a more specific time frame when you book a sitting. Editing photos from each shoot takes anywhere from 6-12 hours per sitting.

How many pictures will we receive?

For one sitting, you will typically get back between 12-20 fully edited photos. I select only the best of the sitting and wish to share with you quality vs overwhelming quantity.

What type of animals do you photograph?

Over the years, I have photographed a wide range of animals - both domestic and wild. But I generally photograph dogs, horses and cats when I am hired to do a sitting. All sittings are always outside in natural light. Call me and let's discuss what type of animal you have for me to photograph!

My dog isn't trained! At all! Can you still photograph her?

Yes. Generally, this isn't an issue and the vast majority of the dogs I photograph have very minimal training. With my years of experience in both photography and dog training, I have a very high success rate with virtually every dog.

Let's talk about your individual dog to see if I am a good fit!

Can I be in the photo with my animal companion?

Yes, this is possible. Keep in mind what my style is; organic interactions between you and your animal friend vs a formal portrait of the two of you. I seek out those tender moments to capture the bond. If you are looking for a formal portrait, I am not the right photographer for you.

I want to dress up my dog for a photo. That's ok - right?

Well, no. I am not the right photographer for you. All my photos are of the animal and not anything on the animal - including harnesses, collars, ribbons, halters, bridles and clothing. A simple collar is fine, but I also have ways to safely and comfortably restrain the dog if need be and not have a collar in the final photo that you see.

It is recommended that all animals are freshly bathed and groomed before a sitting if the owner desires a finished photo of a "well groomed" companion. On the other hand, if your desire is to have action shots of your dog running through mud, grooming ahead of time probably does not matter! LOL!
